Position Overview

The Henry Barnard School (HBS) at Rhode Island College invites applications for a Physical Education teacher available to work 2 days per week under the direction of the primary Henry Barnard School Physical Education Teacher. Henry Barnard School places a high emphasis on Health and Wellness and Physical Fitness, with learners partaking in two Physical Education Lessons per week in grades Pre-School through fifth. The 2-day position entails lessons for learners in grades K-5.

HBS enjoys a long tradition of exemplary instruction and curriculum innovation. Located on the campus of Rhode Island College, Henry Barnard is a laboratory school for teacher preparation programs in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (FSEHD).

Primary Purpose

Teach two Physical Education Lessons per week in grades Pre-School through fifth. The 2-day position entails lessons for learners in grades K-5.

Essential Duties

Teach two Physical Education Lessons per week in grades Pre-School through fifth. The 2-day position entails lessons for learners in grades K-5.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

-Proven success for teaching in an elementary setting.
-Excellent classroom management skills
-Ability to collaborate with others.
-Flexibility to work with others and be able to schedule work.
-Ability to carry out instructional plans and report the outcome of the plans to faculty and the principal.

Required Qualifications

Education:

-Certifiable in RI or New England in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Special Education. (with degrees in Elementary Education, or Special Education or Early Childhood).
-Certified as a Physical Education Teacher (RI license or reciprocity).

Experience: Experience teaching in an elementary school setting.
