-Positions are open until filled, but a review of applications will begin on August 1, 2017. -UNION ELIGIBILITY: Adjuncts become eligible to join the RIC/AFT Adjunct Union if they complete 6 load hours (excludes applied music) within the two previous consecutive years. -Candidates should indicate in their cover letter which area(s) they are interested in teaching. -Candidates are required to provide a teaching statement. Use the Teaching Philosophy 1 button. -Candidates are required to provide an unofficial transcript. Transcript should be of highest degree earned. Upon hire, candidate will be required to arrange for an official transcript of highest degree earned to be mailed/transmitted directly from the institution to RIC. -Candidates are required to provide a copy their official certification documentation. (Use the required other document 1 button). -During the application process candidates will be prompted to provide names and contact information for three current references. -An optional button has been provided in case candidates wish to upload additional information. -Individuals are paid monthly with all appropriate taxes deducted. -There are no fringe benefits with this position. Position Overview

The Department of Health and Physical Education at Rhode Island College is committed to providing opportunities for all students to maintain or improve their health and wellness by offering Lifetime Activity courses such as Pilates, Budokon, Tai Chi, Golf, and Tennis.

The full-time faculty rely on a talented & certified “pool” of adjunct faculty to teach a variety of Lifetime Activity courses. Instructors accepted into our Adjunct Pool will be approved for teaching a specific activity course or courses, but may not be assigned a course immediately.

This is a one-credit course.

Essential Duties

The individual will teach a Lifetime Activity course focusing on skill instruction, knowledge of rules and etiquette, and strategy for effective play or participation. The Individual will be responsible for constructing a syllabus with specific expectations and assignments to assess student skill and knowledge.

Occasional Duties

Maintain and inventory equipment and materials needed for the safe and successful instruction of the activity.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

-Certification in the specific content area.
-Skill in outcomes based instruction.
-Knowledge of syllabus creation and effective grading practices.
-Knowledge of how adults learn and stay motivated.

Required Qualifications

Certification in the specific lifetime activity.

At least 2 years’ documented experience teaching the specific content area.

Instruction is performed in a traditional gymnasium, studio or appropriate outdoor location.
