Position Overview

The Henry Barnard School (HBS) at Rhode Island College invites applications for daily substitute teachers for preschool, kindergarten, and first through fifth grades and in the following subjects: Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Spanish, Technology Education.

Payment: $85/day for up to 30 days work; $90/day after 30 days; $100/day after 45 days

HBS enjoys a long tradition of exemplary instruction and curriculum innovation. Located on the campus of Rhode Island College, Henry Barnard is a laboratory school for teacher preparation programs in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (FSEHD).

The Henry Barnard School offers a preschool experience for three and four year old children, three all day kindergarten classes and two classes each at the first through fifth grades. A full complement of special subjects includes: art, foreign language, technology education, library, music, and physical education. Academic and personal support is provided for students in all grades, preschool through fifth. Guidance services are available for all students. Students attend Henry Barnard from throughout Rhode Island. Cultural diversity is celebrated through student enrollment, curriculum infusion, and faculty recruitment.

Primary Purpose

Substitute teaching for preschool, kindergarten, and first through fifth grades and in the following subjects: Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Spanish, Technology Education.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

-Proven success for teaching in an elementary setting.
-Ability to collaborate with others.
-Flexibility to work with others and be able to schedule work.
-Ability to carry out instructional plans and report the outcome of the plans to faculty and the principal.

Required Qualifications

Education: Certifiable in RI or New England in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Special Education. (with degrees in Elementary Education, or Special Education or Early Childhood).

Experience: Experience teaching in an elementary setting.
