Anticipated Vacancy – Fall semester 2018. Position Summary

The individual will teach courses as needed at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including undergraduate courses in physiological psychology, sensation & perception, neuroscience, advanced research laboratory, and graduate-level cognition; maintain a program of research; supervise undergraduate and masters-level research; provide academic advising for students, including minors in behavioral neuroscience; engage in professional service activities within the department, the campus; participate in college and departmental activities and committees and willingness to take on leadership roles.

The department is a vibrant one, consisting of 17 faculty members who serve 600 undergraduate majors, 15 masters students, and a behavioral neuroscience minor. Rhode Island College emphasizes undergraduate student research and experiential learning. Some faculty have established relationships with other local universities and hospitals including Brown University, Miriam Hospital, University of Rhode Island, and Women and Infants Hospital.

Essential Duties

• Teach courses as needed at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including undergraduate courses in physiological psychology, sensation & perception, neuroscience, advanced research laboratory, and graduate-level cognition.
• Maintain a program of research
• Supervise undergraduate and masters-level research.
• Provide academic advising for students, including minors in behavioral neuroscience
• Engage in professional service activities within the department, the campus
• Participate in college and departmental activities and committees.
• Willingness to take on leadership roles.

• Ability and willingness to take on a leadership role, especially for the minor in Behavioral Neuroscience

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctorate in psychology or related field

Experience: Evidence of successful teaching with ability to teach undergraduate courses in physiological psychology, sensation & perception, neuroscience, advanced research lab, and graduate-level cognition. Evidence of an active research program with ability to supervise undergraduate and masters-level research.

Preferred Qualifications

- Ability to teach other undergraduate and graduate psychology courses as needed.
- Active research program applicable to the position that uses non-invasive methods of data collection with humans.
- Willingness to serve in a faculty leadership role as part of the RIC shared governance model following awarding of tenure.

Environmental Conditions

Teaching/instruction is performed in face-to-face and hybrid classroom settings.
