Anticipated Vacancy – Fall semester 2018 Final appointment is subject to available funding. Position Summary

The individual will teach introductory and upper-level courses in computer science; advise students concentrating in computer science; engage in scholarly research and professional activities and take an active role in curriculum development and other Department and College service activities.

The Computer Science department, which has over 150 majors and five full time faculty members, is housed jointly with Mathematics in the School of Arts and Sciences. We offer both a BA and a BS degree and the core curriculum provides broad coverage of the field. Many of the elective courses emphasize Software Engineering skills and technologies while others reflect the research interests of the faculty which include Computer Science and Computer Science Education. Student participation in undergraduate research is encouraged.

Essential Duties

Teach introductory and upper-level courses in computer science.
-Advise students concentrating in computer science.
-Engage in scholarly research and professional activities.
-Take an active role in curriculum development and other Department and College service activities.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

-Demonstrated ability to teach a broad spectrum of computer science courses.
-Demonstrated active research agenda and ability to mentor undergraduate research projects
-Demonstrated ability to keep up with current developments in computer science and software development and incorporate them into the curriculum as appropriate

Required Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science.

Preferred Qualifications

Willingness to serve in a faculty leadership role as part of the RIC shared governance model following awarding of tenure.

Environmental Conditions

Teaching/instruction is performed in a traditional classroom setting.
