Position Overview

The Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner invites applications for the full-time position of Simulation Specialist.

The Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (RINEC) is overseen by the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner. It is a shared facility between RIC School of Nursing and URI College of Nursing. The RINEC occupies approximately 132,000 square feet of South Street Landing. It includes shared simulation suites, skills labs, and classrooms as well as institutional faculty offices. The RINEC offers state-of-the-art learning environments for the nursing students of RIC SON & URI CON.

The Simulation Specialist is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all simulation equipment at the RINEC.

Primary Purpose

Operation and maintenance of all simulation equipment at the NEC.

Essential Duties

• Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and repair of RINEC simulation equipment.
• Interface with manufacturers / vendors regarding troubleshooting equipment and AV systems problems.
• Install hardware and software updates.
• Maintain all equipment and ensure all supplies are ordered / available on a timely basis.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of the simulation labs, skills labs and supply rooms.
• Set-up of simulation equipment and learning technologies to meet the needs of simulation educator, faculty and students.
• Operate the manikin computer-based software and AV systems in the simulation labs and skills labs.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware, software, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist in the development of reference guides for simulation educators and faculty.
• Repair and maintain equipment as required or initiate repairs for items under warranty.
• Assist with operation of simulation equipment for end-user training sessions as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree. Healthcare-related concentration preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one years’ experience in simulation, academia and/or healthcare.

Environmental Conditions

Office and clinical simulation lab environment. Varied laboratory conditions involving mechanical, electrical, and lifting hazards.
Requires the lifting of heavy objects (mannequins, equipment, etc.). Requires work with medical equipment including latex based products.
